Enivronmental Sustainability

We have an increasing interest in Environmental Sustainability and are currently undertaking two programmes for members. These companies are interested in organisations who are actively involved in manufacturing, supply chain and packaging and we are looking for companies to interview to understand how organisations are approaching environmental sustainability. Companies who participate in the research will get access to the research material in exchange for being interviewed.

If you are interested in getting involved please contact Howard Wright on 07584 236636 or howard.wright@h-i.com

Open Innovation, June 2010

An article titled ‘Taking an open approach’ by Andrew Gaule (with thanks to Howard Wright for his contribution) looks at the role of networks in an open innovation environment is featured in the current issue of http://www.innovationeu.org/

H-I Network and McLaren collaboration in 'Wired' Magazine April 2010.

The H-I Network across industry workshop at McLaren’s state of the art installation was the inspiration for a collaboration between McLaren and NATS. “Since then, National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has been working with McLaren's engineers to map Heathrow's taxiways and runways much as they do a Formula 1 track -- and then turn all the data into clear visualizations, so air-traffic controllers can plan in real time for the near future. When rolled out, says Tomlinson, the project will give him a more efficient airport, with less taxiway waiting time, fewer luggage-collection delays, and much more predictable schedules for departing passengers or those collecting others. “

Andrew Gaule's letter in the FT:

Join hands in corporate waggle dance

Published: November 2 2009 02:00 | Last updated: November 2 2009 02:00

From Mr Andrew Gaule.

Sir, Stefan Stern's "Living strategy and the death of the five-year plan" (October 27) is right to state that "leaders need to be more flexible and less heavy handed" and the analogies of driving and traditional strategies are not appropriate.

We have seen that organisations need to think of their chief executives as queen bees sitting in a complex organisation hive. Leading organisations need to have "scout" workers and partners who can identify new market and technology opportunities. Learning a corporate "waggle dance" to develop strategy is far better than traditional consultants who spend their time looking at current markets.

H-I Network support Innovation in Geographical Information with Ordnance Survey

All commercial, public or social activity, from local decisions to addressing global challenges, happen against a background of geography; be it addressing climate change, health and well being, crime or enjoying leisure activities. The role of geographic information is ever more important in achieving ends, in all sectors of the economy, in new and innovative ways. Ordnance Survey have initiated and funded GeoVation, an open innovation social network to:  “encourage and support innovation for social, economic and environmental benefit through the use of geography”.
